Santa Barbara Festival Ballet offers a nurturing environment for young dancers to grow. With small class sizes and dedicated teachers, we offer a focused curriculum, concentrating on sound technique, artistry, and musicality.  Our students (Level 1 and above) are invited to audition for the Nutcracker each year and perform in our Spring performance at the close of each season. Class Descriptions

A joyful introduction to the world of dance! Preschool levels 1 and 2 focus on developing coordination, musicality, and a love of movement through creative play, simple ballet exercises, and imaginative activities. Students will explore space, rhythm, and basic ballet positions in a nurturing environment that encourages self-expression and confidence.

Primary levels 1 and 2 build on the foundations of creative movement with an introduction to formal ballet vocabulary. Students will develop body awareness, balance, and musicality while continuing to foster creativity and joy in movement. Classes emphasize correct posture, basic ballet technique, and classroom etiquette in a positive and supportive setting.

Our graded ballet program (Levels 1-8) offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop classical ballet technique, strength, flexibility, and artistry. Each level builds progressively, with increased focus on alignment, coordination, musical phrasing, and performance quality. Students will be placed in levels appropriate to their skill, maturity, and physical development, ensuring personalized attention and growth.

  • Levels 1-2: Introduction to structured ballet classes with emphasis on foundational technique.
  • Levels 3-4: Expansion of vocabulary, barre and center work, and preparation for pre-pointe.
  • Levels 5-6: Intermediate technique with pointe readiness, focus on precision and expression.
  • Levels 7-8: Advanced training emphasizing technical proficiency, artistry, and performance readiness.

An energetic and fun class that introduces students to the fundamentals of jazz dance. Beginning Jazz focuses on rhythm, isolations, basic turns, kicks, and across-the-floor combinations, all set to upbeat and age-appropriate music. This class is perfect for dancers looking to expand their movement vocabulary and develop versatility.

For dancers with prior jazz or ballet experience, Intermediate Jazz challenges students with more complex combinations, turns, leaps, and stylized choreography. Emphasis is placed on dynamic movement quality, musicality, and performance skills. This class is a great complement to ballet training and prepares students for advanced jazz technique.

This open-level contemporary class invites dancers of all backgrounds to explore expressive movement, floorwork, and improvisation. Rooted in modern dance techniques, this class blends lyrical, athletic, and abstract movement to foster creativity, physical awareness, and emotional connection. Dancers will work on fluidity, strength, and storytelling through movement.

Designed for dedicated students with a solid foundation in classical ballet, this class refines technique, musicality, and artistry through challenging barre and center combinations. Dancers will work on developing strength, control, and fluidity, with a focus on clarity of movement, dynamic expression, and performance quality. Pointe work may be incorporated based on individual readiness. This class is ideal for students seeking to elevate their ballet technique in preparation for performances, auditions, or professional training programs.

A welcoming and supportive ballet class for adults of all levels, from absolute beginners to those returning to dance. This class focuses on developing strength, flexibility, and classical ballet technique at a comfortable pace. Modifications and challenges are offered to accommodate individual needs. Enjoy the beauty of ballet while improving posture, balance, and overall well-being.

Join Meredith Ventura for an invigorating adult contemporary class that blends modern dance techniques with improvisation and creative exploration. This class focuses on breath, fluidity, and full-bodied movement while fostering a sense of community and personal expression. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome to move, connect, and discover their unique artistry.
